The first release from Nick Melillo’s Foundation Cigars, El Güegüense is an award-winning smoke that has caught the attention of the collective cigar world. Named in honor of Nicaragua’s unique folk heritage, El Güegüense (pronounced “Gwe-gwe-nse”) or “The Wiseman” is a series of richly complex Nicaraguan Puros that are reminiscent of golden aged Cuban cigars. Melillo has selected vintage 2011 and 2012 Criollo 98 and Corojo 99 filler tobaccos from Jalapa and Esteli to pair with Jalapa-harvested Corojo 99 binders and Corojo 99 wrappers. The finished cigars are aged in cedar an additional 30 days before leaving the factory. The El Güegüense delivers a rich, yet balanced medium-to-full bodied smoke loaded with cedar, earth, cocoa and leather notes touched by a gentle sweetness. Currently available in a variety of sizes, including the wildly popular 7 ½” x 40 Lancero.
